Empire desk chair, w/ bronze eagles & leather seat

This early-nineteenth-century Empire-period armchair is made from sturdy mahogany and the armrests feature the heads of eagles in bronze. The seat is upholstered with a worn green leather. The imperial eagle is associated with Napoleon, who chose it for its symbolic link to the Roman Empire and military victory.
