Medici urn, cast-iron, 19th-century with chimera

This very heavy cast-iron Medici urn dates from the 19th century. It is decorated with chimera - a mythological fire-breathing hybrid creature - in this case a lion and horned goat. The horns have been formed into handles. The beautiful timeworn patina is a matte gray-blue.
