An exceptional antique copper bathtub, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, retaining its original drain, overflow system, and ingenious wheeled base designed for ease of movement. The tub rests on two rear wheels and a single front swivel caster, with an integrated handle allowing it to be repositioned despite its generous scale. Its elegant curved silhouette and wheeled construction lend an unexpected sense of lightness despite its substantial presence.
The interior has been traditionally tinned, a protective finish historically used to prevent oxidation and provide a smooth, hygienic bathing surface. Over time, the bathtub has developed a beautifully timeworn patina, with soft oxidation, water wear, and traces of verdigris. The surface could easily be restored to a brighter polished finish if desired. Riveted seams, worn wheels, and aged plumbing details further enhance its industrial character and historic appeal.
