With its finely pierced crest, luminous mellowed gilding, and superbly balanced proportions, this exceptional Louis XIV period mirror brings a sense of grandeur and sophistication to an interior while retaining a remarkable sense of lightness thanks to its beautiful openwork crest and softly mellowed gilding.
The elaborate openwork pediment is centered with a beautifully sculpted putto beneath a canopy, framed by scrolling acanthus foliage of remarkable fluidity and refinement. The rectangular frame is richly ornamented with finely engraved scrolling foliage and deeply carved floral motifs, retaining its original water gilding with a warm, honeyed patina acquired over centuries.
The quality of the carving throughout is exceptional, revealing the hand of a highly skilled workshop and an extraordinary attention to depth, movement, and symmetry. The antique mercury plate remains beautifully bright, softly marked by age with scattered light foxing
Whether hung above a mantel, placed in an entrance hall, or layered into a more contemporary interior, this magnificent mirror brings depth, warmth, and an unmistakable sense of timeless grandeur to a space.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
