This French Louis Philippe mirror, of impressive scale, dates from the 19th century and retains its beautiful original gilding. The frame follows the restrained, rounded form characteristic of the period, enlivened by finely engraved decoration that adds a subtle note of decorum without overwhelming its simple silhouette. The original mirror plate is attractively foxed while retaining good functional clarity. Its unusually generous proportions give it an impressive presence, while the simplicity of the frame keeps it elegant rather than imposing. The wooden backing boards are no longer present, and the mirror plate was likely replaced at some point.
