This twentieth century heraldic eagle is an unusual example of folk art, composed entirely of worked nails carefully arranged and affixed to a wooden backing. The wings sweep upward in a bold, symmetrical arc, each feather formed from layered metal elements that catch the light with subtle tonal variation. The surface retains a darkened patina, the iron gently oxidized over time, enhancing the depth and texture of the composition. The meticulous placement of nails creates a richly tactile effect, combining sculptural relief with graphic clarity.
Both decorative and symbolic, the eagle has long been associated with strength and protection, here reinterpreted through inventive craftsmanship and humble materials. Striking and highly decorative, this piece makes a compelling focal point on a wall, whether displayed in an entryway, study, or above a mantel. While robust in appearance, it should be handled with care due to the pointed nail heads and textured surface. Bold yet grounded in traditional craft, it brings character, history, and a sense of individuality to any setting.
