An opulent petite French gilt wrought-iron stool from the 1950s, featuring elegant curule X-legs and rope-and-tassel ornamentation. Hand-forged and finished in mellow gilding, the lattice seat is framed by upturned handles, where traces of oxblood red bole peek through, lending gentle warmth to the surface. The twisted rope motif is punctuated by four sculpted tassels, showcasing the artisan’s skill. The structure is sound and the mesh seat secure, with timeworn finishes that add depth and character.
This refined form draws on the classical curule seat, embraced in mid-century France for its graphic silhouette and lightness. The rope-and-tassel detailing , a favored trompe-l’œil motif among Parisian metalworkers, demonstrates deft savoir-faire in the hammering and chasing of the iron prior to the application of gilt. Such stools served as versatile occasional seating or as dressing stools, bridging Neo-Classical restraint with the playful glamour associated with the 1950s.
Perfect tucked beneath a console, placed at a vanity, or used as an occasional table topped with a tray, this well-proportioned piece introduces a glinting accent without crowding the room. Style it with a small velvet cushion in deep red to echo the warm undertones of the bole and enhance its subtle richness.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
