A charming French Art Deco mantel clock by Bayard, distinguished by its geometric architectural form and elegant combination of stone. The central body is carved from creamy white alabaster and framed by stepped panels of pale green and reddish-brown onyx, all resting on a polished black base. The contrasting colours and clean lines are quintessentially Art Deco. The dial retains its striking Roman numerals and original character, while the metal bezel displays attractive oxidation that enhances its aged patina. The original movement has been replaced with a later battery-operated mechanism, which is no longer functioning. The clock is therefore offered as a decorative object only, with missing hands and wear consistent with age.
Today, it is valued for its sculptural presence and period charm, its architectural silhouette and contrasting stones bringing a touch of French Art Deco elegance to a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or desk.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
