French Art Deco Bronze Discus Thrower on Black Marble Base By Baret - 15¾"

A dynamic tabletop bronze of a discus thrower, cast in dark green patinated bronze and mounted on a polished black marble plinth, dating to the 1930s. The athlete is shown mid-lunge with the disc drawn back in the left hand, the torso powerfully twisted and the head lifted, the musculature modeled with precise, realistic detail. The uniform dark patina harmonizes with the glossy black base for a cohesive silhouette. Signed Barret incised to the base. Condition is very good, with light wear to the high points of the patina and a few faint surface scratches to the marble. The subject draws on the classical Diskobolos, long a symbol of athletic excellence, and reflects interwar taste for idealized sport and health.
