This elegant French Art Deco vanity from the 1940s features ribbon-grain mahogany veneer and a round cut and beveled mirror framed by a sculptural scalloped backboard that adds a subtle touch of glamour. The design rests on bold U-shaped supports over a stepped plinth, while the apron contains three drawers with their original brass button pulls providing practical storage. Compact yet visually striking, it combines graceful geometry with warm materials, its surface displaying a timeworn patina with light wear, faint water marks, and gentle age to the mirror and brass.
This piece suits a bedroom or dressing room paired with a low upholstered stool, where its curved silhouette softens architectural lines. It also works as an entry or guest-room console, providing a graceful landing spot beneath the mirror for a lamp and a tray of essentials. Accentuate the warm acajou with alabaster or brass lighting and a few period accents such as cut-glass perfume bottles to echo the mirror’s bevel and highlight the cabinetry’s sheen.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
