A striking French Belle Époque hanging lantern dating to circa 1900, featuring a molded peridot-green glass shade suspended within cast brass mounts. The satin-finished glass is richly molded with flowing acanthus-inspired foliage in relief, framed by scrolling borders at the shoulder and base. The lantern hangs from a scalloped brass gallery by delicate chains and terminates in an elegant matching finial. When illuminated, the translucent green glass emits a warm, jewel-like glow. Presented in very good antique condition, with a gentle patina to the brass and light wear consistent with age. The glass is free from visible chips or cracks and the lantern is currently wired for electricity.
Rich in color and sculptural detail, this lantern has a remarkable ability to transform the atmosphere of a room. The satin-finished peridot glass diffuses light into a soft, golden-green glow, while the raised botanical motifs lend depth and movement to its surface. Suspended from its finely cast brass mounts, it evokes the refined interiors of the Belle Époque, recalling the winter gardens, salons, and grand townhouses of the turn of the century. Whether hung in an entryway, stair hall, powder room, or intimate sitting area, it brings warmth, character, and a distinctly romantic sense of another era.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
