A large oval wall mirror in the Romantic style, circa 1900. The carved wooden frame is enriched with plaster ornament, including a ribbon-tied laurel garland at the base and a richly worked floral crest, where two small birds rest among roses. The crest is painted in soft pastel tones and finished with a light varnish, while the rest of the frame retains a muted, chalky finish, gently worn with age. The pairing of the birds is traditionally associated with love and union, suggesting the mirror may have been conceived as a wedding gift.
A few small losses to the birds’ wings' tips and the lower garland, which do not detract from the overall effect. The mirror plate is a recent replacement, very clear and functionnal.
Ideal above a mantel or console in a bedroom, or as a powder room mirror, it brings a soft, lyrical note and a sense of romantic charm to the space.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
