An oval French copper daubière from Patricia's kitchen at Chanteduc, this generous pot comes directly from Patricia Wells’ personal collection, where it lives on the open shelf within easy reach for daily cooking. Patricia laments, "This is my favourite - I hate to give it up, it's a real daubière. There's something I love about the shape, the lid never quite fits!!" A daubière is the classic oval braising pan, ideal for gentle oven cooking and slow daube (stew).
Forged in heavy copper with copper rivets and a wrought iron handle, it carries the honest patina of a well-kept Provençal kitchen: a warm cuivré (coppery) hue, light speckling, and the pleasing irregularity of a handmade lid that settles with character. The long iron handle with hanging eye balances the oval body, while the sturdy lid handle invites a confident grip. Its scale feels ample without being oversized, ready for family suppers or a cooking class.
From a culinary icon known for intelligent simplicity and hospitality, this is very good quality with real service in its history. Display it on a pot rack or kitchen shelf, or bring it to table for rustic braises and garden vegetables. Decorative and fully functional, it is a working piece of Chanteduc and a tangible link to Patricia’s life between Paris and Provence.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
