French Giltwood Sunburst Convex Mirror, Early 20th Century - 22¾"

This decorative French sunburst mirror, probably dating from the early 20th century, features a hand-carved giltwood frame surrounding a convex mirror plate. Inspired by the celebrated Louis XIV "sun king" motif, the frame is composed of alternating long and short fluted rays radiating from a finely molded circular surround. The warm gilded finish has mellowed beautifully with age, developing an attractive patina that accentuates the crisp carving. The convex mirror retains very light foxing, while the frame remains in very good antique condition with minor wear consistent with its age.
