This charming rounded green-glazed terracotta planter dates from the 1930s and likely comes from southern France. It has a gently everted rim above a band of molded bead-and-drop ornament, small applied lug handles at the shoulders, and a bulbous body that rests on a ringed foot. Vertical fluting enriches the lower half, while the deep olive glaze shows attractive abrasion revealing the warm terracotta beneath, creating a mottled surface of green and earthen tones. Unmarked, it is in timeworn condition with scattered glaze losses, minor nicks to the rim, and surface wear consistent with outdoor use, this beautiful patina lending the piece an old-fashioned charm.
This piece brings an authentic garden note to interiors, perfect for an entry console with a fern or myrtle in a liner, or grouped with other earthenware on a sunny kitchen window ledge. On a covered porch or garden table it offers a soft contrast to iron and stone, its green and terracotta tones pairing well with natural fiber rugs and patinated metals. Use it as a centerpiece cachepot for seasonal bulbs or citrus, or as a sculptural accent on shelving where its texture and color add depth to both rustic and tailored rooms.
