Dating from the 1920s to 1930s, this exceptional round oak table is a characterful example of French Henry II-style design, blending rustic elegance with sculptural artistry. The richly detailed base is carved with dynamic representations of three foxes and a hunting dog, each rendered with remarkable expressivity and unique facial expressions. The round top is encircled with a beautifully carved frieze, adding refined ornamentation to the overall silhouette. The entire piece has been carefully sanded, softening its darker historic finish to reveal the natural oak grain beneath, giving the table a lighter, more contemporary feel while preserving its antique soul.
Originally designed as an expandable dining table, this piece retains its additional support legs, although the extension function is no longer active. With the guidance of a skilled woodworker, the table could potentially be restored to its original convertible form. The substantial base rests on discreet casters, allowing for easy repositioning without compromising its grandeur. As it stands, the table comfortably seats six people for dining.
Ideal as a center table or dining table, this sculptural piece brings an immediate sense of French country tradition and artisanal craftsmanship. Its dramatic presence make it a conversation-worthy centerpiece.
