For decades, this generous iron dining table has held its place on the terrace at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter's farmhouse and cooking school near Vaison-la-Romaine — and it is instantly familiar to anyone who has cooked alongside Patricia in Provence. At the end of each class, students would gather around it to eat together, the work of the kitchen becoming the pleasure of the table.
Painted in crisp white, the table is composed of several sections: two graceful semicircular ends and a series of rectangular leaves that slot together to create a surface of impressive length. The perforated metal tops — each section decorated with a grid of small punched holes — allow rainwater to drain freely, making the table as practical as it is handsome. The elegant curved ironwork bases echo the scrolled chairs that surround it. Patricia explains that the table is currently arranged at its fullest extent, but that it has many extensions and can be easily reconfigured to suit any number of guests. "We have had it for forty years," she says. "It is wonderfully practical."
This is a table built for real outdoor life: easy to clean, untroubled by weather, and designed to bring people together. It would be equally at home on a generous terrace, in a walled garden, or beneath a pergola. Twelve matching chairs are available for separate purchase.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
