An elegant French side table with a tilting top, crafted in solid walnut and dating to the late nineteenth century. The turned central pedestal rises through stacked bobbin and baluster forms, leading to a tripod base of three gently curved legs, each ending in a modest scroll foot. The oval tilt-top, a practical feature that allows the table to be stored flat against a wall when not in use, has a moulded edge and retains its original wooden locking mechanism beneath.
The walnut has deepened beautifully over time to a warm, honeyed amber, with richer, darker tones where the surface has been touched and exposed to light. The top shows signs of age and use, including fine cracks, traces of old woodworm, and a slight irregularity to the plane, all consistent with its history.
Nicely proportioned and easy to place, this table would sit beautifully beside a reading chair, at the end of a sofa, or in a bedroom corner. Timeless and full of warmth, it feels equally at home in a Provençal farmhouse or a thoughtfully curated city interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
