French Louis XV Style Cherrywood Console Bookcase, Mid-20th Century - 32¾" x 38½"

This elegant French étagère d'entre-deux, also known as a _bibus_ or console bibliothèque, was made in the mid-20th century in the Louis XV style. Crafted in cherrywood, it stands on slender cabriole legs joined by a delicately shaped apron, while the open upper compartment is crowned by a graceful scalloped gallery. The quality of its construction, traditional pegged joinery, and carefully aged finish place it firmly within the tradition of finely crafted French revival furniture produced by workshops such as André Mailfert of Orléans.The upper shelf provides an elegant display area, while the lower tier offers additional space for books or decorative objects. The wood has acquired a warm, mellow patina over time. The rear gallery shows some age-related damage, and a few old wormholes are present. 

This versatile piece lends itself beautifully to an entry hall, living room, bedroom, or landing.
