French Marble and Silver-Plated Rotating Serving Stand, Early 20th Century - 9" x 11½"

This petite French rotating serving stand, dating to the early 20th century, combines a circular white marble top that rotates smoothly on a silver-plated metal column and base. The turned central column rises to a ring handle, while the spreading foot is finished with a delicate beaded border. The marble has developed a beautifully timeworn patina with soft gray toning that brings warmth and an inviting lived-in character, accompanied by a few small edge nicks and light surface wear consistent with age. The silver plate has acquired a gentle, mellow patina with minor wear, and the underside retains its original felt, showing a small tear consistent with age. Overall, the piece is in good vintage condition. 

Known in France as a plateau tournant, this type of revolving stand was traditionally placed at the center of the table to serve cheeses, pastries, fruit, or petits fours. The cool marble surface kept food fresh while rotating smoothly to allow guests to help themselves, combining practical function with understated elegance. 

Today, it makes an elegant centerpiece for a dining table, kitchen island, or buffet.
