This large and weighty French Medici-form jardinière, circa 1950, is cast in cement with a flaring campana body, broad everted lip, and a ring of pronounced gadroon ornament at the lower bowl. Resting on a turned socle and square plinth, its surface shows a chalky off-white and stone-gray patina with traces of moss and lichen, enhancing the timeworn texture. Weathered from outdoor use, it bears scattered chips, edge losses, and age staining that add to its antique character.
Echoing classical forms revived in Renaissance Florence, the Medici urn has long been a symbol of elegance in gardens and terraces. This mid-century example combines durability with sculptural presence, making it equally striking outdoors, whether flanking an entry, anchoring a garden axis, or gracing a terrace. Indoors, it serves as a decorative focal point, ideal when filled with greenery or seasonal blooms.. Its generous scale and aged finish bring depth and timeless charm to both traditional and contemporary settings.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
