French Painted Concrete Garden Rooster w/ Handsome Mossy Patina - 20½"

A vintage French garden rooster, likely dating from the mid-20th century, cast in concrete and retaining a richly weathered painted finish. The bird stands in a proud, upright pose, with its chest forward, head held high, and tail rising dramatically behind. Its surface is especially appealing, with rough, textured modeling, faded gray and cream tones, and traces of red and ochre around the comb, wattle, and legs. The round integral base has developed a beautiful natural covering of moss, reinforcing the piece’s rustic garden character. There are a few small chips and areas of paint loss consistent with age and outdoor exposure, while the structure remains solid. 

The rooster has the direct, slightly naïve quality of mid-century French garden ornament, but its strong silhouette and beautifully aged surface make it equally appealing indoors. It could return naturally to a terrace or garden among pots and greenery, while in a kitchen it would bring an especially fitting touch of French country character, displayed on the floor, a low console, or a generous worktable.
