This gilded bronze hanging lantern brings a gentle glow and effortless elegance to an entry porch, entrance hallway, or staircase landing. Made in France around 1900, during the lively revival of Rococo taste, it is crafted in the Louis XV style with scrolled cresting, delicate leaf details, and a circular cage of curved glass panels. The warm gold tone has mellowed with age to a soft sheen, while the three candle-form lights offer an inviting, candlelit effect. It shows a gentle patina to the gilding, light rubbing to the high points, and clear glass panels that present beautifully. Complete with chain and a leaf-cast ceiling canopy.
This lantern brings atmosphere and a graceful vertical accent to a space and is especially suited to an entry hall, or a covered entry porch. It would also work beautifully in an interior courtyard with covered passageways, where it can be teamed with similar models (such as the one available here), to let the lanterns echo gracefully from one passage to another, or be used in pairs along extended corridors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
