French Walnut Kitchen Vitrine - Wall Mounted - 40½" x 32"

This small walnut vitrine began its working life in the main kitchen at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells's farmhouse and cooking school in Vaison-la-Romaine. It is compact enough to sit on a counter or hang on a wall. Built in warm walnut, the wood has deepened over time to a rich honey-amber with darker grain running through the top. A single glazed door, divided into four panes by slender wooden muntins, opens to reveal an interior shelf that neatly divides the space into upper and lower compartments. A small white ceramic knob and a stepped cornice and base give the piece its characteristic French simplicity and quiet architectural presence. Patricia recalls that after its years at Chanteduc, the vitrine moved with them to their apartment on Rue Jacob in Paris, where it lived in the kitchen for decades — and even spent a stretch on loan to a friend before finding its way back. Today it would be equally at home displaying spices, small bottles or collected ceramics in a kitchen, or holding books and objects in a study or hallway.
