A small marine watercolor, signed and dated 1897, depicting a moored sailing vessel at a quay, its rigging rising against a misty harbor with a lighthouse and distant shoreline. Executed in transparent washes of slate blue, sepia, and taupe, the scene has a quiet atmospheric quality typical of late nineteenth century harbor views. The paper shows gentle overall toning with a few scattered specks of foxing. It is presented under glass in a later layered giltwood and painted frame, which shows abrasions, stains, and wear to the surface. Overall the painting remains in good condition and would benefit from a frame that better complements the work.
Its intimate scale and hushed palette make it an elegant accent for a study, entry, or sitting room, particularly in a coastal home. Hang it above a slender console with a pair of brass sconces nearby, or incorporate it into a gallery wall of maritime scenes and etchings.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
