Shimmering with tiers of faceted glass, this French balloon-form chandelier from around 1900 brings a cascading, luminous presence to any interior. Its silver-toned metal frame carries rows of square and teardrop prisms that gather into a rounded basket and rise into a graceful crown above. As the four interior lights illuminate the fixture, the prisms catch and scatter the glow, creating a soft brilliance that recalls the hot-air-balloon silhouettes so admired in European lighting from the late eighteenth century through the Belle Époque. The metalwork shows a gentle, timeworn patina with subtle oxidation, while the glass prisms display minor irregularities that enrich the chandelier’s antique character.
Well-proportioned for an entryway, stair hall, dining room, or bedroom, this chandelier hangs from a single central hook, and a chain may be added to adjust the height as needed. Style it over a dining table to bring refined sparkle, suspend it in a tall foyer to draw the eye upward, or place it near a mirror so the prisms double their radiance. Its elegant silhouette, glamorous shimmer, and atmospheric glow make it a timeless focal point in both classical and contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
Must be rewired and installed in accordance with local electrical requirements.
