Grand 19th-century mercury mirror w/ beveled black lacquered frame 69¾" x 45"

A very-large nineteenth-century French mirror featuring a beveled, lacquered black wood frame and original mercury mirror. Likely originating from a hotel particular or grand home in France in the early-to-mid 1800s. Fitting for both modern and traditional interiors, this mirror can be hung in a portrait or landscape directions and will add understated glamour and French elegance to any room it enters.

This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non harmful state.

Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
