Large Hexagonal Bronze & Brass Hall Lantern, Early 19th Century - 42¼" x 21¼"

A grand hexagonal hall lantern in patinated bronze and brass, dating from the early 19th century. An elegant openwork scrollwork corona rises above six glass panels enclosed within a finely worked cage. Each corner is adorned with a finely cast classical mascaron, while one side opens on its original hinges with a charming hand-shaped latch, providing access to the interior. A turned central stem supports three lights with pierced bobeches. Originally designed for candles, the lantern has since been professionally electrified for modern use and is supplied with candle-form bulbs that recall its original function. The bronze and brass retain a beautifully timeworn patina with light oxidation and gentle surface wear, while the glazed panels display the characteristic waviness and minor scratches associated with hand-blown glass. 

With its generous scale, finely cast mascarons, and elegant openwork silhouette, this lantern brings a strong architectural focal point to both period and contemporary interiors.  Its open design allows light to radiate freely through the space, creating a soft, welcoming glow from every angle.
