A grand mid-19th-century Murano mirror, this statement piece features an octagonal central plate surrounded by a faceted, frame of angled mirrored panels, all finely engraved with trailing flowers and secured by delicate glass rosettes. The sculptural crest and scalloped lower cartouche give the mirror a theatrical silhouette, characteristic of Venetian workshops renowned for their ornate glass mirror production during the 19th century. The plate remains clear with a few scattered age spots and a central clear area that does not detract from the mirror’s overall grandeur; there are also small nicks to the right-hand edging, consistent with age.
Hang it above a mantel to heighten a room and throw soft light across plaster or stone, or place it in an entry above a console for a refined welcome. Its luminous surface and engraved detail pair effortlessly with gilded wood, painted furniture, and contemporary pieces, while its generous scale anchors a wall with quiet grandeur. It would also make a striking vanity mirror in a dressing room, bringing a gentle shimmer and a sense of Italian elegance to everyday rituals.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
