Hand Forged Iron Fire Tools Set from Provence

Two custom-made fire tools from Chanteduc’s wood-fired bread and pizza oven, commissioned for Patricia Wells’s Provençal kitchen. Patricia explains, "I had these made 20 years ago. They’re great for scraping coals, beautifully handmade and very pleasing aesthetically." Put to work clearing embers for bread lessons and convivial pizza nights, this honest pair reflects the intelligent simplicity and generous hospitality at the heart of her cooking school. Hand forged with twisted iron shafts and looped finials, the set comprises a broad rectangular shovel and a domed circular scraper. Their surfaces carry a working patina from ash and heat, with subtle color bloom in the metal and a neatly hammered rivet securing the shovel’s plate. Long in the hand yet well balanced, they reach comfortably into a deep oven and hang neatly by their rings between bakes. The condition is robust and ready for service, with age-consistent wear that adds character. At home beside a living room hearth or an outdoor oven, they also read as sculptural tools with true provenance when mounted on a kitchen wall. A practical, handsome duo that brings the warmth of Chanteduc into daily life.
