Hand-Painted Ceramic Plate w/ Playful Face Motif - 6¾"

Playful and graphic, this small contemporary handcrafted ceramic plate is hand-painted with a stylised face in tones of deep blue, soft sky blue, moss green, plum brown, and coral red on a warm cream ground. The asymmetrical eyes and expressive linework give the face a mischievous, animated character, while the glossy glaze amplifies the clarity of colour and the confident, hand-drawn quality of the design. The composition feels both spontaneous and carefully balanced, with a lighthearted nod to Cubist and mid-century graphic influences.

This plate is part of a larger hand-painted series, though each piece is entirely unique in colour and expression. Other plates from the same set are available here and sold individually. The underside is signed Gertrude, an artist based in Antwerp in Belgium, a long-established European centre for art and design. Condition is very good, with a bright glaze and the subtle variations inherent to handmade work.
