This tall hand-blown glass vase, dating from around 1920, has a graceful, elongated form that widens gently towards a generously flared rim, resting on a broad circular foot. Its clear glass is delicately hand-painted with a scattering of small flowers in shades of dusty mauve, soft pink and lavender, each with a golden-yellow center and slender green stems. The floral decoration rises in loose, airy clusters along the sides, with individual blossoms scattered across the foot, creating a lovely sense of lightness and spontaneity. The vase is signed beneath the base “Delvaux, Paris, 18 Rue Royale” and shows no visible chips.
Founded in Paris in the 1880s, Delvaux was a prestigious retailer of fine porcelain, crystal and decorative arts, showcasing works by celebrated makers and artists. During the 1920s, the house also produced its own collections of decorated glass, with artists working in an atelier within the store. This vase beautifully reflects the delicate, nature-inspired decoration fashionable during the period. Its generous proportions and finely painted flowers give it an elegant, romantic presence, even when displayed empty. It would look lovely filled with a loose arrangement of garden flowers on a dining table, or standing on its own on a mantel or entry console, where the light can pass through the glass and reveal the full beauty of its decoration.
