A beautifully handcrafted French fireplace screen dating from around 1970, featuring a rectangular copper panel suspended within a hammered wrought-iron frame on flared feet. The iron has a deep, hand-forged patina, while the central copper plaque is embossed in high relief with a heraldic dolphin. Solid and weighty, it shows gentle signs of age with minor marks and oxidation that enhance its authentic character.
Drawing on the tradition of French decorative ironwork and copper repoussé, this piece carries historical references in its heraldic motif, possibly created as a bespoke commission for a family property.
Its warm metallic tones make it ideal before an active or decorative hearth, softening the firebox opening and lending a refined accent. Beyond its functional role, it stands as a sculptural element with quiet dignity and artisanal charm.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
