A vintage rectangular pea-green glazed terracotta serving platter from Chanteduc, Patricia Wells’s Provençal home. Handmade locally by an artisan potter, it features a patterned border that suggests basket weave, gently rising sides, and softly tapered corners. The glossy glaze shows natural tonal variation with tiny kiln freckles and the lightest wear along the rim, the kind of patina earned at a convivial table. As Patricia remarks, “It’s special, unique and very Provençal. It’s great for watermelon. Make it colorful!” Generous without being bulky, this platter holds court at the center of a table. Its terracotta body and fresh green glaze flatter citrus, summer tomatoes, and wedges of melon, aligning with Patricia’s direct, welcoming style of cooking and teaching.
