A beautiful two-part regional display cabinet from the Auvergne region of France, dating from the 19th century. Elegant and practical in its proportions, the piece is relatively narrow, while still offering generous storage and display capacity. Crafted in solid wood, possibly chestnut, the cabinet has been painted in a deep black finish that has naturally worn over time, revealing warm undertones and areas of the wood beneath. This beautifully aged surface gives the piece remarkable depth, texture, and authentic character.
Beneath a molded cornice, the upper section features glazed double doors fitted with antique glass panels displaying the slight waviness and irregularities typical of old glass, ideal for displaying ceramics, glassware, books, or collected objects. The lower section is composed of three small drawers above a double-door cupboard fitted with an interior shelf, offering generous concealed storage. A charming original wooden turn-button latch remains on the façade, adding to the rustic appeal of the cabinet.
The cabinet reflects the understated elegance and practicality of traditional rural French furniture. With its simple architectural lines, worn black patina, and balanced proportions, it would work wonderfully in a kitchen, dining room, study, or living space, bringing warmth and understated elegance to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
