A handsome Italian wall mirror of medium scale dating from the late 18th century or early 19th in the Baroque manner. The ebonized wooden frame is carved throughout with a finely rippled pattern, its bold black finish and stepped inner moulding creating a striking architectural surround for the original mercury plate. The glass retains its softly shimmering surface with gentle waviness and light foxing, while the frame shows only minor nicks and light rubbing to the edges, consistent with age.
Whether displayed as a standalone piece or incorporated into a layered arrangement, this mirror commands attention through the strength of its form. Executed in the Baroque manner, the frame's deep ebonized finish gives it a powerful graphic presence, while its restrained rippled carving enriches the surface with subtle texture. Relying on proportion and silhouette rather than elaborate ornament, it possesses a quiet architectural gravitas that feels remarkably timeless.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
