A pair of tall French Art Deco pedestals in Alpine Green marble circa 1930, each featuring a stepped square plinth, a tapering square shaft with paneled faces edged in fine brass trim, and a molded square top, with a stylized floral bronze frieze at the base adding a refined accent to the richly variegated green marble. Condition is good, the surfaces showing only light and harmonious wear along the edges, a few discreet corner nicks, and a mellow patina on the brass and bronze that complements the materials, while the overall design, born of collaboration between stonecutter and metalworker, reflects the period’s pursuit of crisp geometry, restrained ornament, and subtly abstracted natural motifs favored in luxury décor and boutique interiors of the interwar years.
These pedestals lend symmetry and quiet presence when flanking a fireplace, doorway, or console, and their compact footprint suits an entry or gallery wall with ease. Topped with a bronze or alabaster figure, a classical urn, or a modern vessel, they allow the polished marble to play subtly against contrasting textures. The deep green stone brings a grounded, luxurious note to neutral schemes and pairs beautifully with dark woods, making the duo an understated yet sophisticated platform for curated objets in living rooms, libraries, or dressing rooms.
