This vintage Moroccan haik from the 1970s is a generously scaled textile, handwoven in wool and cotton. Its composition unfolds gradually across the surface, with bands of color shifting from deep crimson and inky indigo to softened teal, earthen browns, and natural cream. The changing bands of color suggest a woven narrative, with tonal changes reflecting the materials at hand, resulting in the nuanced, lived-in variation collectors prize. The weave remains supple yet tactile, with visible nuances that speak to its artisanal origin. Each example is unique. Rooted in Berber tradition, the haik once served as a versatile cloak and household covering, prized for warmth, durability, and expressive pattern.
Drape it over a bed as a layered throw, soften a sofa or reading chair, or hang it as an airy curtain to filter light. It can also serve as a relaxed table cover or be folded on a bench at the foot of the bed. The rich color and tactile weave lend warmth and depth to contemporary and traditional rooms alike.
Note: As a result of their handwoven construction and utilitarian origins, haiks naturally present irregularities and imperfections that underscore their authentic charm, with gentle signs of age that further enrich their character.
