An exuberant Hollywood Regency chandelier of generous scale, likely French or Italian, this ten light example is crafted in pressed tole with a double patina of aged gold and silver. Scrolling S shaped arms spring from a foliate cage and rise to leaf collared candle cups, while the central stem blossoms into a palm like spray of curled leaves that crown the composition. The metal surfaces show warm lustre with contrasting silvered highlights that catch the light beautifully. Condition is very good with timeworn gilding, scattered rubbing, and small areas of oxidation appropriate to the 1960s to 1970s period.
Hollywood Regency drew on baroque and rococo exuberance, translating theatrical ornament into gleaming, modern interiors of the mid twentieth century. Italian workshops, especially around Florence and the Veneto, had a long tradition of tolework and supplied the American market with stylized foliage, scrolling arms, and luminous metallic finishes that embodied the era’s taste for glamour.
This chandelier lends instant presence over a dining table, in a high ceilinged foyer, or layered into a living room where its warm metal tones can bridge antiques and contemporary pieces. It pairs elegantly with mirrored consoles, lacquered surfaces, or veined marble and looks especially striking against deep wall colors that amplify the gold and silver finish. Install on a dimmer to tune the light from atmospheric shimmer to bright, welcoming illumination.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
