Dating from the early twentieth-century, this huge terracotta bowl or 'tian' is from the Var region (southeast France). Bowls such as these served several purposes - often used as a basin for washing dishes, vegetables, and even for bathing. The pale green glaze is sublime and very rare.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
