This tall ceramic candlestick was made at the Keraluc pottery in Quimper, Brittany, likely in the 1970s, and hand-decorated by André Horellou (1943–1999), whose signature appears underneath alongside the BO4 model number. It has a distinctive column-like form, with a succession of rounded moldings, decorative rings and gently narrowing sections rising from a broad, flared base. The cream-colored stoneware is covered with a rich composition of geometric patterns, scrolling motifs and delicate linear details in muted blue-green, warm ocher-brown and charcoal gray. Some areas feature finely incised decoration, adding texture and depth to the softly matte surface. The piece appears in very good condition, with no visible chips and light traces of age underneath.
Founded in 1946, Keraluc encouraged individual artistic expression alongside its production of established ceramic forms. The BO4 model was decorated by several artists, each bringing their own style and making every hand-painted example unique. Horellou's precise, rhythmic patterns give this piece a particularly graphic, almost abstract character, quite different from Yvain's more floral interpretation of the same form. These individual artistic treatments make Keraluc ceramics especially interesting to collectors today.
