A substantial enameled steel direction sign from the Paris underground, dating to the 1930s. Made in heavy-gauge steel with a glossy white ground framed by a deep blue border, it features crisp condensed block lettering listing key Paris destinations, beneath the heading “Directions.” The surface presents as timeworn, with scattered edge chips, small losses and light oxidation at the apertures, while the typography remains clear and strongly legible. Once installed to guide travelers through busy corridors, it reflects the clean lines and functional clarity of interwar public design. Hung above a console in an entry, layered into a gallery wall, or set over a bar or kitchen pass, this sign brings a measured urban note to both contemporary and traditional rooms. Its graphic scale and saturated blue pair well with pale plaster, oak, and patinated metal, while the authentic wear softens the geometry for a grounded, lived-in mood. Whether used as a focal artwork or integrated into a collection of transport ephemera and maps, it offers enduring character and a quietly evocative sense of place. The sign is pierced with eight holes for secure wall mounting, and owing to its weight, appropriate fixings are recommended.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
