Large 19th century vitrine w/ 6 doors

"This has become a very favourite piece of ours," Patricia says of the Marseille cabinet, the grand vitrine that has stood in the living room at Chanteduc for decades. Found years ago at the celebrated antiques market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the late 19th century cabinet is built from pine and oak, its pale, honey-toned wood worn smooth with age. It is a substantial piece — wide enough to command an entire wall — with three pairs of doors (six panes) framed by beautiful mouldings and a deep, stepped cornice above. The dealer told Patricia and Walter it had come from a hat shop in Marseille. Walter later modified it, adding, shelves, fabric to the back interior and drawers beneath the lower panelled doors — making it exceptional storage for napkins, tablecloths, knife rests and table linens of every kind. Due to its size, the Marseille cabinet will be fully disassembled for removal from Chanteduc; buyers should budget for a cabinetmaker to rebuild and install it on site. In the right room — a large kitchen, a dining room, a generous hallway — it would be extraordinary.
