This large antique French cutting board, probably dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, is made from a thick single piece of wood with a broad rectangular working surface and an integral handle. The handle is particularly appealing, gently shaped and rounded from years of handling, with a smooth polish that contrasts with the heavily worked surface of the board. Across the top, generations of use have left a dense network of knife marks, scratches, shallow cuts and softened wear, while old wormholes, small age cracks and areas of darkened patina add further texture.
