This antique confit pot is crafted in earthenware and defined by a classic, generously rounded form with two small loop handles at the shoulder. The vessel features a traditional half glazed finish, with a warm ocher upper section enriched by a celadon glaze flow that transitions organically across the surface. This variation is the result of kiln interaction during firing, likely influenced by nearby pieces glazed with copper based oxides, creating an unrepeatable pattern. The lower portion remains unglazed, revealing raw clay softened by time, while scattered glaze losses, firing irregularities, and surface wear contribute to its charming rustic patina and honest character. Originally used for preserving meats in fat, such pots were essential elements of rural kitchens and cellar storage.
Today, this confit pot offers strong decorative appeal as a sculptural accent. Its balanced proportions and textured surface suit open shelving, a kitchen sideboard, or the floor, where it can hold branches, dried flowers, or kitchen essentials.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
