Large Antique Provençal Ceramic Jug w/ Glossy Mottled Green Glaze - 13¾"

This large Provençal ceramic jug dates from the late 19th century and is distinguished by its generous globular body, a characteristic form in traditional southern French pottery. It is fitted with a small side handle for pouring, a short raised spout and a prominent arched carrying handle above the neck. The surface is covered in a deep, glossy mottled green glaze, whose tonal variations give the rounded form wonderful depth.  Areas of glaze loss and wear are visible, particularly around the base and handles, consistent with age and long use.

Made as a practical household vessel, its appeal today lies in the combination of this wonderfully full, rounded silhouette and the refreshing depth of the green glaze.
