This large antique salting jar from the mid-20th century is crafted in glazed stoneware and features a beautifully balanced, softly tapered form. Finished in a smooth ivory toned glaze with subtle variations, it remains in good condition, showing only gentle, natural signs of age. Four evenly spaced loop handles encircle the body, lending both strength and elegance while emphasizing its generous scale. The stamped marking indicating a capacity of 70 litres highlights its original purpose as a substantial storage vessel, originally intended for curing meats.
Today, this jar offers remarkable decorative versatility. A drainage hole has since been added at the base to allow the jar to be used as a planter, ideal for a lemon tree or other large greenery on a terrace or patio. Placed beside a swimming pool, it becomes a functional and striking container for collecting used towels, its size and form lending a quiet architectural presence. Whether displayed alone or grouped with similar vessels outdoors, it brings balance, light, and understated refinement to both indoor and outdoor spaces.
