A large and characterful 19th-century confit jar from southern France, hand-thrown in a classic ovoid form with a wide mouth and two small loop handles at the shoulders. The upper body is coated in a pale, luminous yellow glaze, bright and sun-washed in tone, which contrasts beautifully with the raw terracotta below.
On one side, expressive glaze drips run from the shoulder, forming bold, irregular trails that animate the surface and speak to the spontaneity of the firing process. The glaze shows areas of wear and loss, revealing the clay beneath, yet the piece remains sturdy and sound, with a presence that is both robust and timeworn.
Utilitarian in origin yet highly decorative, this generously scaled jar makes a striking and grounded statement, its bold form and sunlit glaze drawing the eye and anchoring a space with quiet strength. It can be fitted with a liner and used as a vase for generous, natural arrangements, from tall branches to dried grasses, enhancing its sculptural presence.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
