This superb, large Louis XVI / Directoire style bergère armchair dates from the nineteenth century. Note the superb carved ram's heads on the elbows of the armrests - this makes this armchair particularly unusual and rare. The cushion has been reupholstered with Italian Rubelli fabric. The back is cane, and the frame is gilded. There is a minor tear in the cane on the left wing.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
