Large French Romantic painting - 19th century 91¼" x 50"

This extraordinary and extra-large romantic scene dates from the start of the nineteenth century and is signed by the artist. Originally used as built-in wall decor in grand homes, this piece could have been commissioned to decorate the walls of a bourgeois-owned hotel particulier in Paris. Drawing from the true French Romantic style of painting, this piece features a couple in a garden surrounded by roses and a large tree in the background. The scene is embellished with gold scrolling motifs which frame the edges.  The wear to the canvas surface makes it feel like a tapestry.
